Job summary

Stake is seeking a KYC Team Lead in Sydney to build and lead the Financial Crime Operations team. You’ll develop the team, set priorities, and shape KYC workflows with technology and automation, balancing regulatory obligations with a great customer experience.

This hybrid role involves three days in our Sydney office as Stake evolves. You’ll drive high‑quality KYC outcomes at scale, partnering with Product and Engineering to unlock better workflows and ensure operational readiness for changes

Qualifications

• Experience leading operational teams in KYC/AML at scale.
• Deep knowledge of KYC: CDD/ECDD, AML/CTF obligations.
• Data-driven approach to decision making and performance.
• Ability to partner with Product and Engineering on workflows.

About the role

We are looking for a KYC Team Lead to join our Financial Crime Operations team in Sydney.

You’ll lead the team responsible for delivering high-quality KYC outcomes at scale. That means developing a strong team, setting clear priorities and building an operation that combines sound judgement with a seamless customer experience. You’ll work closely with the Manager, Financial Crime Operations to shape where the function goes next – balancing regulatory obligations, operational performance and Stake’s broader ambitions.

This is a role for someone who wants to lead and build. You’ll have the scope to improve how we work, use data to make sharper decisions and partner with Product and Engineering to unlock better KYC workflows through technology and automation. As Stake evolves, you’ll make sure the team is ready to evolve with it. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

• You’ll have lifted the quality and consistency of KYC decisioning, using QA outcomes and complex escalations to continuously strengthen the team.
• You’ll have shipped meaningful automation and workflow improvements with Product and Engineering, increasing efficiency while creating a smoother customer experience.
• You’ll have led the KYC team confidently through changes to systems, processes and regulatory requirements, with strong operational readiness before they go live.
• You’ll have strengthened how Stake works with KYC and identity verification vendors, identifying friction and pushing for better outcomes from our tooling.
• You’ll have brought a commercial lens to KYC – understanding how decisioning and friction affect the broader customer funnel and making considered trade-offs between risk, compliance and customer outcomes.

• You’ve led and developed operational teams before. You know how to set a high bar, coach people towards it and create clarity around priorities and performance.
• You know KYC deeply, including CDD and ECDD operations at volume, AML/CTF obligations and how to apply sound judgement as regulatory expectations evolve.
• You can zoom out and zoom in. You’re comfortable shaping the direction of a function, then getting close to a complex escalation or operational bottleneck when it matters.
• You use data to make decisions. You can turn productivity, capacity, quality and customer signals into a clear view of what’s happening and what needs to change.
• You’re an effective cross-functional operator who can work closely with Product and Engineering to turn operational problems into simpler, scalable workflows.
• You take ownership through change. Whether it’s a migration, process redesign or new regulatory requirement, you anticipate what’s coming, simplify the problem and get the team ready to deliver.

Bonus if you’ve ever

• Worked hands-on with biometrics, AML screening, case management or other KYC and identity verification tooling.
• Led remediation or migration programs across a regulated operation.
• Helped design or automate KYC workflows alongside Product and Engineering teams.
• Explored how agentic AI can reshape operational work, decision support or customer experiences.
