Job summary

Capgemini is seeking a Senior API Gateway Engineer to design, implement, and deploy Kong-based solutions for enterprise clients. You will guide architecture, run workshops, and deliver hands-on Kong configurations across greenfield and brownfield projects.

You will work with architects, developers, and executives to ensure secure, scalable, and valuable outcomes, leveraging Kong Konnect, Kubernetes, and IaC in a hybrid Australian environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years' experience delivering enterprise integration platforms and services.
• 5+ years' hands-on experience with API Gateway/API Management solutions, preferably Kong.
• Proven experience in large-scale, regulated enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kong API Gateway, API integrations, and Kong Konnect.
• Solid understanding of APIs, microservices, and API-led integration architectures.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, Terraform, decK, and IaC practices.
• Strong knowledge of DevOps, networking, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience implementing API security controls including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and mTLS.
• Proficiency with Linux and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall delivery environments.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage technical and executive audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, deployment, and adoption of Kong API Gateway solutions for enterprise customers.
• Facilitate technical workshops and provide architecture guidance across API, integration, security, and platform domains.
• Deliver hands-on engineering, configuration, and troubleshooting for Kong platform implementations.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, business stakeholders, and operations teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Define and promote best practices, governance standards, security controls, and reusable automation frameworks.
• Contribute to thought leadership through technical documentation, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
