Job summary

WHSmith's Food by WHSmith cafes at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne are hiring energetic Kitchen Hands. You will work in a fast-paced hospital cafe, preparing sandwiches and keeping dishes washing and storage organized, while delivering friendly service.

This casual, on-site role requires at least 1 year in hospitality, ability to multitask, strong teamwork and basic food safety knowledge. Evening shifts from 12:30 to 20:30 and opportunities to grow in hospitality are on offer.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of hospitality experience in a Kitchen Hand role.
• Experience with dishes and prep.
• Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Preparing sandwiches, wraps, and other items according to recipes and standards.
• Washing dishes and pots.
• Clean and maintain kitchen areas, dishwashing and waste management.
• Unpack deliveries, rotate stock and store properly.
• Ensure food is prepared/handled per safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized prep area.
• Serve customers efficiently and courteously.
• Work as part of a team to meet service targets.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Kitchen Hand, you will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable multitasking to ensure that our customers receive the highest level of service.

• Preparing sandwiches, wraps, and other items according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Washing dishes and pots
• Clean and maintain general kitchen areas, including dishwashing and waste management.
• Unpack and sign off deliveries, ensuring stock is rotated and packed away properly.
• Ensuring all food is prepared and handled in line with food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Maintaining a clean, organised, and well-stocked food preparation area.
• Serving customers efficiently and courteously.
• Working as part of a team to meet daily service targets and standards.

The Successful Candidate

To be considered for these roles, you must display the following:

• Will be available to work evening shifts that are 12.30 to 20.30
• Minimum 1 year of hospitality experience in a Kitchen Hand role
• Experience in dishes and prep
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene.
• Physically capable of lifting and moving stock.
• Organised and efficient with good communication skills.
• Willingness to learn & can-do attitude.
