Job summary

Toscano's in Melbourne's eastern suburbs is seeking a casual Kitchen Hand to support our busy kitchen and store operations, assisting with food prep, packaging, and stock control. You will help maintain fresh juice production, handle deliveries, and ensure hygiene and safety in line with WHS and our procedures.

• Deliveries: Receive deliveries, check items against invoices, and store correctly.
• Hygiene & Safety: Maintain high cleanliness and follow WHS and company procedures.
• Reporting: Proactively report low stock or equipment faults to the Head Chef or Manager.

Toscano's is a thriving, high-quality gourmet grocery store located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We pride ourselves on offering the finest fresh produce and gourmet goods, and we are currently looking for an energetic Kitchen Hand to support our team in our busy commercial kitchen.

The Opportunity
This is a casual role with excellent scope to move into permanent or full-time employment for the right candidate.

Hours: 30-38 hours per week across weekdays and weekends.

Shifts: Typically 5-8 hours long.

Availability: Shifts operate between a 6:00 AM start time and a 6:00 PM finish time.

Pay Rate: Paid in accordance with the General Retail Industry Award.

Purpose of the Role

You will support day-to-day kitchen and shop operations by preparing, packaging, and stocking food and beverage items. Your role is vital in maintaining our fresh juice production and ensuring all deliveries and stock are handled and stored correctly.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Food Prep & Packaging: Package, label, and stock food and drink items in line with food safety and shelf-life standards. Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation as required.

Juice Production: Prepare fresh juice to order and operate the cold-pressed juice process. This includes working in the cool room for 4-6 hour stretches (warm jackets provided!).

Stock & Inventory: Stock and replenish shop-floor displays and fridges throughout the day. Rotate stock using FIFO (first-in, first-out) principles to minimize wastage.

Deliveries: Receive deliveries, check items against invoices/orders, and safely put stock away in designated storage areas (fridge, freezer, and dry store).

Hygiene & Safety: Maintain high cleanliness and hygiene standards across all prep and storage areas. Follow all food safety, WHS, and company procedures at all times.

Reporting: Proactively report low stock, quality issues, or equipment faults to the Head Chef or Manager.
