St Francis Flexible School Hobart and Wynyard offers a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Flexible Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
St Francis Flexible School is establishing a new campus in Wynyard in 2027, initially providing a flexible and highly supported educational environment for young people in Years 7-10, before expanding to include Years 11 and 12 from 2028.
The Kitchen Coordinator will play an important role in the daily life of St Francis Flexible School North West Campus, taking responsibility for the planning, preparation and provision of healthy and nutritious meals for our young people.
Food and shared meals are an important part of the flexible education model, providing not only nutrition but opportunities for connection, relationship-building and a positive sense of community. The Kitchen Coordinator will work collaboratively with the broader campus team to ensure young people have access to welcoming, well-prepared meals throughout the school day.
The role will oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the campus kitchen including: menu and meal planning, food preparation, purchasing and ordering, stock management, budgeting, kitchen organisation and maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety. Collaboration with the Campus Manager for many of these tasks will be required.
The Kitchen Coordinator will also assist with catering for special events, outings and camps where required.
While working directly with young people in the kitchen will not be a regular requirement, we are looking for someone who is open to occasionally sharing their skills and knowledge with young people. This may include supporting opportunities for young people to participate in food preparation, learn basic cooking skills and develop greater knowledge of healthy food choices.
We are seeking someone who is organised, flexible and able to work independently while also contributing positively to a multidisciplinary campus team. Previous hospitality experience and/or relevant qualifications as a chef or cook are highly desirable, together with demonstrated experience in preparing healthy meals and an understanding of safe food preparation, storage and service. Basic campus utility tasks are also an occasional requirement of this role.
The successful applicant will also be required to hold a driver's licence and be willing and able to drive school transport vehicles to support the transportation of young people when required.
For a confidential conversation about the role, please contact Gregg Sharman, Head of Campus, EREA Flexible Schools Ltd., via email gregg.sharman@flexi.edu.au or 0456 566 784
