Job summary

CQID is recruiting a Kinship Support Officer in Bundaberg, Queensland. The role focuses on culturally safe, practical kinship support and initial assessments for prospective kinship carers under the Strong Carers, Strong Children program.

You will work with families to identify needs and navigate approvals, ensuring culture and country guide every step. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will collaborate with Kinship program leads and other services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in community services, human services, child protection, social work or a related field.
• Strong cultural identity and ability to work across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and kin.
• Knowledge of kinship care, family support and care planning is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver culturally safe, assessment-focused kinship support to prospective kinship carers and households.
• Build trusting relationships with carers, children and families through home visits and culturally safe engagement.
• Ensure engagement reflects culture, kinship and connection to country in assessments.
• Complete kinship carer assessments and Household Safety Studies within required timeframes.
• Support carers with Blue Card, health, safety and approval processes and provide clear information.
• Collaborate with teams and services to coordinate referrals and practical supports.
