Job summary

Mills Oakley in Adelaide is seeking a Junior Lawyer (1-3 years’ PQE) to support a highly regarded Partner, Caroline Knight, on dust diseases litigation for national and international clients.

You will manage a varied caseload under supervision, draft defences and statements of claim, analyse causation issues, and liaise with experts to advance litigation strategy. This role offers mentorship and exposure to high-profile matters within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years’ PQE in insurance litigation, personal injury defence or commercial disputes.
• Strong analytical skills and confidence working with technical medical evidence
• Excellent drafting and attention to detail
• Commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal and insurer objectives
• Professionalism and maturity when dealing with sensitive claimant circumstances

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of dust disease claims under supervision
• Draft defences, statements of claim, evidence summaries, liability analyses and strategic advice
• Assess exposure histories and interrogate causation issues using expert evidence
• Prepare briefs to counsel and liaise with experts
• Assist with mediations, contribution negotiations and multi‑party litigation strategy
• Analyse and prosecute contribution claims against employers, insurers, builders and other commercial entities
