Job summary

Southpaws Specialty Surgery in Malvern, Melbourne, is seeking a Junior Emergency & Critical Care Veterinarian to join a growing ECC team on a full-time basis. You’ll work within a specialist-led ECC department and be mentored by experienced clinicians, with access to a dedicated ICU and nursing team.

The role offers a rotating roster across day, swing and night shifts, plus a sign-on bonus or relocation support depending on your needs.

Qualifications

  • Hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree.
  • Eligible for registration with the Victorian Veterinary Board.
  • Strong clinical foundations and interest in Emergency & Critical Care.
  • Experience in General Practice, an internship, or prior emergency care is desirable.
  • Confidence with a rotating roster across days, swings, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality emergency and critical care to a varied caseload.
  • Work on a rotating roster including day, swing, nights and one-in-two weekends.
  • Collaborate with the specialist ECC team and ICU nurses for case management.
  • Engage in ongoing education with study leave and a CE budget.

Southpaws is seeking a motivated Junior Emergency & Critical Care Veterinarian to join our growing team in Malvern, Melbourne.

Working alongside a highly experienced specialist-led ECC department, you'll be supported by a Criticalist (DACVECC), Senior ECC Clinicians (MANZCVS), dedicated ECC Veterinarians, and an exceptional team of ICU and Emergency Nurses.

This is an ideal opportunity for a veterinarian with strong clinical foundations and a genuine interest in Emergency & Critical Care who is looking to build their skills and confidence within a supportive referral environment.

The Role:

This full-time position offers a rotating roster across day, swing and night shifts, including one-in-two weekends. You'll work alongside and be supported by experienced ECC clinicians while managing a varied emergency caseload and continuing to develop your emergency and critical care skills.

About you:

  • You hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
  • Eligible for registration with the Victorian Veterinary Board
  • You have strong clinical foundations and a genuine interest in developing your career in Emergency & Critical Care
  • You may be coming from General Practice, an internship, or have previous emergency or after-hours experience
  • Confidence working across a rotating roster including days, swings, nights and one-in-two weekends
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care
  • Experience with EzyVet and SmartFlow is an advantage, but not essential
