Job description

Junior Surveyor — Start Your Career in Construction Surveying

Training + Company Vehicle + Practical Experience + Clear Career Path

Looking for a career where you can work outdoors, use technology, solve problems and see the results of your work on real construction projects?

We're looking for a Junior Surveyor to join our team and build a long-term career in construction surveying.

You don't need years of experience. What matters most is that you're keen to learn, reliable, practical and interested in developing a technical skillset.

About Us

Willis Setouts & Surveys is an industry leader in domestic construction surveying, recognized for our high standards and commitment to client satisfaction. With offices in South Melbourne, Pakenham and Geelong, we handle projects across Victoria and lower NSW. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment that genuinely values work-life balance.

We value a strong skill set in construction surveying, but we also recognize that experience in other fields can complement your expertise and enhance your contributions to our team.

About The Role

Start as a Junior. Become a Surveyor.

We'll give you the training and practical experience to develop from a junior team member into a confident, independent surveyor.

Your career progression can look like:

Trainee - Junior Surveyor - Surveyor - Senior Surveyor

As you progress, you'll take on increasing:

  • Technical responsibility

  • Project responsibility

  • Client interaction

  • Problem-solving and decision-making

  • Earning potential

You’ll learn on real construction sites, working alongside experienced surveyors and developing skills that will stay with you throughout your career.

What you'll get
  • Competitive entry-level salary

  • Company vehicle for work

  • Structured training and mentoring

  • Hands-on experience across real construction projects

  • Modern surveying equipment and technology

  • A clear pathway to becoming a fully independent surveyor

  • Structured salary progression as your skills and responsibilities develop

  • The opportunity to build a long-term career in a specialised technical industry

What you'll be doing

As you develop, you'll gain experience in areas such as:

  • Setting out construction works

  • Taking accurate measurements and levels

  • Using total stations, GPS and other surveying equipment

  • Reading plans and interpreting construction drawings

  • Checking construction works against design

  • Recording and reporting survey information

  • Working with site supervisors, engineers and project teams

  • Solving practical problems on active construction sites

You'll start with support and guidance and progressively take on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.

Who we're looking for

This could be a great fit if you:

  • Are starting out and looking for a genuine career pathway

  • Have an interest in construction, engineering, surveying or technical work

  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work rather than sitting behind a desk all day

  • Are comfortable working outdoors and on construction sites

  • Have good attention to detail

  • Are reliable, willing to learn and take pride in your work

  • Can communicate well and work as part of a team

  • Hold a current driver's licence

Previous surveying experience is helpful but not essential. We're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude and potential to develop.

Build a skill. Build a Career.

If you're considering engineering, construction, a trade or another technical career, construction surveying offers a combination of hands-on work, technology, responsibility and long-term career progression.

You’ll start by learning the fundamentals and, with the right attitude and effort, have the opportunity to progress into a fully independent surveyor with increasing responsibility and earning potential.

If you're looking for more than just a job, we'd like to hear from you.
