Airtree Ventures is hiring a Junior Accountant to join its Sydney-based finance team. You will contribute across fund accounting, investor reporting, capital calls and distributions, tax, and audits, with support from qualified accountants to help you grow toward CA/CPA qualifications.

The role offers broad exposure beyond a typical junior seat, with path to professional progression and a strong emphasis on accuracy, deadlines, and teamwork in a high-growth venture capital setting.

• Handle transactional work: reconciliations, expense recharges.

The Role

We are hiring a Junior Accountant to join the finance team. You will join a team of four, led by our Financial Controller. The team looks after Airtree’s management company and each of our funds. Each fund has its own manager entity and its own set of books. That covers fund accounting, investor reporting, capital calls and distributions, tax, cash flow and the annual audit. This is an opportunity to get exposure to how a fund operates and get to learn every part of our finance operations. We have qualified Accountants in the team to support you to grow and achieve your CA/CFA qualification.

We’re currently onboarding an external fund administrator to support our fund administration processes. Our job is to review, query and approve everything before it goes out. You will be at the centre of that, running first-pass checks and outputs against how we’ve always done things. You will also help us build the processes that sit alongside it.

We’re adding this role to give the existing team more capacity and depth. It’s a broad role, and you will get exposure to far more than you would in a typical junior seat. What You Will Do

Fund finance

• Run first-pass tie-outs and outputs against our existing processes, and chase down anything that doesn’t match.
• Do the first review of capital calls and distributions before they go to the team for sign-off.
• Support capital calls and distributions.
• Help prepare quarterly investor reports and half-yearly financial statements.
• Liaise with auditors and tax advisors for annual audit and tax returns.
• Help us embed AI in our processes to improve accuracy and efficiency, while continuing to deliver the best possible experience for our LPs.

Investor requests and fundraising support

• Complete LP and super fund reporting templates, including SRS and look-through requests.
• Support operational due diligence requests from investors during fundraising.

Management company support

• Prepare quarterly tax lodgements for our funds and management entities.
• Assist the management accountant with cash projection and delivering quarterly management pack.
• Take transactional work off the team’s plate, including expense recharges between entities, reconciliations and payment admin.

Must haves

• An accounting degree.
• CA/CPA qualified or in progress.
• ~3 years’ experience, at roughly Associate level at a Big 4 or mid-tier firm.
• Advanced Excel skills. You will spend a lot of your time on reconciliations and tie-outs.
• Strong attention to detail. You notice when a number’s slightly off.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Team player. We win as a team.

Nice to haves

• An audit background.
• Exposure to funds, asset management or venture capital.
• Experience with Xero.
• Hands-on BAS or GST experience.

• You are comfortable with a wide scope and can move between fund work, tax and cash flow on the same day.

Location, Flexibility & Support

Airtree’s headquarters are based in Sydney, and this role will be required to be in-office on average three days a week.
