Job summary

Bamara is seeking a Job Mentor with a First Nations Specialist Provider under Workforce Australia to provide culturally safe, holistic, and tailored employment support to First Nations clients. You will mentor participants to identify goals, address barriers, and build the skills and confidence needed to secure and maintain sustainable work, in partnership with local employers.

The role will float between Cairns sites and requires strong cultural competency, mentoring, and case-management

Job Description

As a Job Mentor with a First Nations Specialist Provider under Workforce Australia, you will provide culturally safe, holistic, and tailored support to First Nations clients, supporting participants to identify their employment goals, address barriers to employment and build the skills and confidence needed to secure and maintain sustainable employment.

You will work closely with participants and employers to provide tailored mentoring, guidance and ongoing support throughout their employment journey.

This role will float between the sites in the Cairns region.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Demonstrate strong cultural competency in working with First Nations communities
• Participate in connection with community, respect relationships and apply this respect to each participant across all diverse cultural backgrounds
• Ability to apply mentoring, case management, and employment services
• Strong understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in relation to employment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and advocacy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of local community services, employers, and support networks
• High level of organisational and time management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or case management systems
• Understanding of typical barriers faced by unemployed participantsreturning to the workforce
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to meet and exceed outcome-focused KPIs
• Must pass and have a current Police Check
• Must pass and have a current Working with Children Check and/or Vulnerable Persons Check
