Skillfield is seeking a Java developer to join one of our account teams, working with a large telecommunications client. You’ll build high-performance Java microservices that process real-time network data at scale.

You’ll work across the full software lifecycle, from shaping requirements with customers to shipping well-tested code into production. You’ll be part of a small, close‑knit engineering team that shares knowledge, reviews each other’s work and takes on challenging problems together.

Qualifications

• Strong Java experience, APIs and microservices with Spring Boot.
• Experience processing high-performance network protocols.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of messaging databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse.
• Experience with CI/CD and code quality tools like Bamboo, Bitbucket/GitLab, SonarQube or Veracode.
• Experience with Golang and API gateways such as WSO2 or NGINX.
• Australian citizenship and an NV1 clearance or higher, maintained throughout.

About The Role

Location: Melbourne, hybrid

Contract: 1 year, with potential for extension

We’re looking for a Java developer to join one of our account teams, working with a large telecommunications client. You’ll build high-performance Java microservices that process real-time network data at scale.

You’ll work across the full software lifecycle, from shaping requirements with customers to shipping well‑tested code into production. You’ll be part of a small, close‑knit engineering team that shares knowledge, reviews each other’s work and takes on challenging problems together.

What you’ll do

• Design and build reliable, well‑tested Java services across multiple platforms


• Make design decisions with real autonomy, and review code with your peers to keep codebases healthy, stable and fast


• Turn product requirements into user stories and tasks, and help shape the roadmap


• Automate build, test and deployment pipelines so the team can ship with confidence


• Analyse emerging technologies and bring ideas that improve how we work


• Work with customers and stakeholders to learn what they need and design solutions that work in the real world


• Write clear technical documentation and pass on your know‑how across teams


• Spot delivery risks early and raise or resolve them

What you’ll bring

• Strong Java experience, including building and deploying APIs and microservices with Spring Boot


• Experience processing high‑performance network protocols


• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes


• Working knowledge of messaging (Kafka, ActiveMQ) and relational and non‑relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse)


• Experience with CI/CD and code quality tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket/GitLab, SonarQube or Veracode


• Experience with Golang, and API gateways such as WSO2 or NGINX.


• Australian citizenship and a current NV1 clearance or higher, which you’ll need to maintain
