Job summary

Pacific National, Australia’s largest private rail freight operator, is seeking an experienced IT Project Delivery Office Lead to provide governance, delivery assurance and financial oversight across our IT project portfolio. Working with Project Managers, Finance and senior stakeholders, you’ll ensure projects are well planned, governed, financially controlled and aligned to business outcomes.

A tertiary qualification in Business/PM/Finance is desirable, with certifications such as PRINCE2,

Qualifications

• Experience leading governance, delivery assurance and financial oversight across large IT portfolios.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycle, governance, reporting and risk management.
• Financial management skills including budgets, forecasts, actuals and cost control.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with clear insights.
• Stakeholder management and communication with senior leaders and governance forums.
• Business analysis capability including requirements assurance and process mapping.
• Organisation and attention to detail with multiple priorities.
• Experience with MS Project, Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with financial and reporting systems like Power BI or Tableau.

Every day we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel, and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.

We're looking for an experienced IT Project Delivery Office (PDO) Lead to provide governance, delivery assurance, financial oversight and analysis across our IT project portfolio.

Working closely with Project Managers, Finance and business stakeholders, you'll help ensure projects are well planned, appropriately governed, financially controlled and aligned to approved business outcomes.

What you'll be doing

• Support the planning and delivery of IT projects, including budget, schedule, risk and resource management.
• Provide portfolio governance, reporting and delivery assurance.
• Manage project financials, including budgets, forecasts, actuals and variance reporting.
• Develop business cases, financial models and benefits realisation tracking.
• Prepare reports and governance packs for senior stakeholders and committees.
• Oversee project procurement, vendor management and financial commitments.
• Support requirements management, change planning and implementation readiness.
• Drive continuous improvement across project governance, reporting and financial controls.

What we're looking for

You’ll bring demonstrated experience working in a Project Delivery Office or similar portfolio environment, ideally within a heavy industry, infrastructure, transport or other regulated environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience managing financial oversight and analysis across large, complex IT projects or programs.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycle, governance, reporting and risk management.
• Strong financial management skills, including budgets, forecasts, Capex/Opex and cost control.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear insights and actions.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience working with senior leaders and governance forums.
• Strong business analysis capability, including requirements assurance, process mapping and current/future-state analysis.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with tools such as MS Project, Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with financial and reporting systems such as PeopleSoft, Power BI or Tableau.

A tertiary qualification in Business, Project Management, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline is desirable, as is a project management certification such as PRINCE2, PMBOK or BABOK.
