A Newcastle accounting firm is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join a collaborative team. You’ll work closely with Senior Accountants to manage client work, gain exposure to advisory tasks and broaden technical experience.

Ideal candidates have 2–3+ years in public practice, a accounting/commerce degree, and experience with Xero or MYOB. Flexible start times and WFH options are available after probation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements for various entity types.

An established Newcastle accounting firm is looking to add an experienced Intermediate Accountant to its growing team.

The role

Working closely with Senior Accountants and Managers, you’ll manage a portfolio of client work and progressively take on greater responsibility.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders

• Preparing and lodging income tax returns, BAS, IAS and FBT returns

• Assisting with Division 7A, CGT and FBT calculations

• Managing client files from start to finish

• Maintaining accurate records and meeting compliance deadlines

• Liaising with the ATO and other regulatory bodies when required

• Responding to client queries via phone and email

• Developing your confidence in direct client communication and advisory work

You’ll have access to experienced senior team members who are available to provide guidance and support as you develop your technical skills and take on more responsibility.

About you

We’re looking for someone with:

• 2–3+ years’ experience in an Australian accounting practice

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline

• Experience preparing tax returns and financial statements

• Exposure to companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders

• Understanding of Division 7A, CGT and FBT

• Experience with Xero and/or MYOB

• CA or CPA completed, underway or an interest in commencing

• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

• A collaborative approach and willingness to learn

• Motivation to continue developing and progressing within public practice
