Job summary

Colin Biggers & Paisley is seeking a Solicitor or Associate to join a high‑performing team in Sydney or Melbourne. The role involves providing clients with practical legal advice, staying abreast of case law, and conducting rigorous research to deliver timely, commercially sound guidance.

You will manage a busy workload, develop client relationships, and contribute to front‑end policy work while collaborating with colleagues across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years' PQE in a legal practice.
• Experience handling large volumes of documents and complex matters.
• Strong client relationship and business development capabilities.
• Ability to work across NSW and VIC claims and policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide clients with legal advice and strategic guidance.
• Regularly review case law and legislative changes relevant to matters.
• Conduct thorough legal research and prepare timely, accurate advice.
• Manage a robust workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.

About the team:

Mathisha (Tish) Panagoda is a partner in the insurance team and works within Colin Biggers & Paisley's national Institutional Risk and Liability group. His practice is focussed on child safety, general liability and special issues managing civil and National Redress Scheme claims of historical child abuse and working with organisations to ensure robust child protection policies and procedures, manage investigations and provide strategic advice on a range of sensitive issues.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or Associate to join a supportive and high performing team. The role will require:

• Providing clients with legal advice
• Regularly reviewing applicable case law and legislative changes
• Conducting effective legal research and analysis to produce timely, commercial and legally accurate advice
• Managing a robust workload, including prioritising work and delivering services effectively
• Developing an understanding of client operations and strategy
• Managing prospective client relationships
• Working collaboratively within a team
• Continual professional development and managing MCLE requirements
• The role can be based in our Sydney or Melbourne office, and you will work across both jurisdictions
• Not just working on claims, but also being involved with front end policy work

About you:

• 2-5 years' PQE
• A desire to be an integral member of a strong and cohesive team who work collaboratively
• Ability to manage large volumes of documents
• Strong attention to detail
• Practical and client focused problem solving and research skills
• Previous exposure to business development and a natural ability to build strong client relationships
• Ability to manage client expectations and work within timeframes
