An opportunity has arisen to join Council's Safety and Risk Branch in the position of Insurance & Liability Advisor. Supported by the Senior Risk advisor you will be responsible for the coordination and management of insurance claims for all classes of risk including public liability, motor vehicle and property. You will also review and advise on all aspects of Council's insurance portfolio and implement best practice risk management strategies.

Essential
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in relevant qualification and/or extensive experience in general insurance and complex claim management across multiple classes of insurance in a medium-to-large organisation
  • Substantial knowledge of Local Government Act and Civil Liability Act as it applies to claims
  • Expert understanding of liability risk including experience in assessing liability, and negotiating, and settling complex, litigated insurance claims
  • Advanced knowledge in managing disputed claims, with experience representing at hearings and preparing materials in response to subpoena and GIPA applications
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to advise, support and communicate to a broad range of internal and external customers in relation to insurance risk
  • Sound financial management including setting and monitoring budgets in the insurance environment
  • Strong investigative, research and reporting skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated competence in risk assessment and the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures
  • Ability to confidently handle difficult customer interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to apply EEO, WHS and ethical practice principles and to act with probity at all times
Desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in risk management
