Job summary

IDEXX is seeking an Instrument Technician II in Sydney to diagnose, repair, and maintain our in-house diagnostic instruments, enabling veterinarians to deliver high-quality care. You will perform disassembly, testing, and preventative maintenance while documenting activities and pushing for process improvements.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or background in mechanical, electrical, electronics, mechatronics, or manufacturing disciplines.
• Approximately 2–3 years of hands-on technical experience in equipment repair, maintenance or service.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs independently.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedures and specifications.
• Comfort with mechanical and electronic systems and electro-mechanical repair aptitude.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications including Microsoft Office.
• Experience with medical devices, lab instrumentation or veterinary technology is advantageous but not essential.
• Flexible team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Permanent Australian work rights preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and test IDEXX diagnostic instruments and related equipment.
• Perform full instrument disassembly, repair, reassembly and functional testing at our Sydney facility.
• Execute preventative maintenance programs and assist in instrumentation servicing activities.
• Assemble, test, and inspect electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical components and assemblies.
• Accurately document repair activities, test procedures and results using electronic systems and MS Office tools.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to procedure/documentation development.
• Support quality, safety, and compliance requirements including SOP adherence.
• Work across multiple product lines to develop broad technical expertise.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized work environment and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

What you need to succeed:

• You have a technical qualification or background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.

• You have approximately 2 to 3 years of experience in equipment repair, manufacturing, technical service, maintenance, or a similar hands‑on technical role.

• You have strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs independently.

• You can read and interpret technical documents, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and specifications.

• You are comfortable working with mechanical and electronic systems and have an aptitude for electro‑mechanical repair.

• You have strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

• You are proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.

• Experience with medical devices, laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic equipment, or veterinary technology would be advantageous but is not essential.

• You are a flexible team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Permanent Australian work rights are strongly preferred.
