Job summary

RSGx is seeking a number of Instrument/Automation Commissioning Technicians to support a major WA urea project. The role focuses on instrumentation, control systems, calibration and functional verification during commissioning and start-up.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in instrumentation with commissioning experience, and hold WA electrical licenses or instrumentation tickets. FIFO/minimal site travel may apply; roster and safety requirements are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years' instrumentation experience, including commissioning.
• Experience with instrument calibration, loop checking, and I/O testing.
• Familiarity with DCS/PLC systems and process transmitters.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and loop drawings; commissioning documentation.

Responsibilities

• Commission instrumentation and control systems on site.
• Verify instrumentation installation, perform calibration and testing.
• Carry out I/O checks, loop checks and functional verification.
• Support system start-up and pre-start activities.
• Liaise with engineers and control system teams; follow permit-to-work and LOTO.

RSGx is supporting our client to deliver a major urea manufacturing project in Western Australia. Once complete, the facility will be the largest in Australia and among the largest globally, incorporating industry-leading, more sustainable production processes. The project is expected to generate around 2,000 jobs during construction and deliver lasting benefits to the local community through careers, training, and business opportunities

We are seeking a number of qualified and experienced Instrument/Automation Commissioning Technicians. Previous experience working FIFO in Mining, Construction or Project based environments will be highly regarded.

These positions will support the commissioning and start-up phase of the project, with a focus on instrumentation, control systems, loop checking, testing, calibration and functional verification

Daily Duties

The Instrument / Automation Commissioning Technician will be responsible for commissioning instrumentation and control systems and ensuring equipment and field devices are correctly installed, tested, calibrated and functioning in accordance with project requirements.

• Undertake instrumentation pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Perform instrument installation verification and inspection.
• Complete point-to-point and loop checking.
• Calibrate and test field instrumentation.
• Test and verify transmitters, switches, control valves and associated devices.
• Conduct functional testing of instrumentation and control systems.
• Complete I/O checks and signal verification.
• Assist with DCS/PLC commissioning activities.
• Carry out instrument fault finding and rectification.
• Verify instrument cabling, terminations and junction boxes.
• Interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, instrument datasheets and wiring diagrams.
• Complete commissioning ITRs, check sheets and test documentation.
• Identify and close out punch-list items.
• Assist with system functional testing and plant start-up.
• Liaise with commissioning engineers, electrical personnel and control system teams.
• Work within project permit-to-work, isolation and LOTO requirements.
• Participate in pre-starts, toolbox meetings and safety activities.

Essential qualifications/tickets

Ideally 5+ years' instrumentation experience, including significant commissioning experience.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience with: Instrument calibration Loop checking I/O testing Instrument fault finding Control valves Process transmitters DCS/PLC systems P&IDs and loop drawings Commissioning documentation Industrial processing environments.
