Job summary

The Building and Plumbing Commission in Victoria is seeking an Inspector, Plumbing to conduct inspections, audits and investigations to promote compliance with plumbing legislation, building codes and Australian Standards.

You will prepare inspection reports, maintain case management and engage with stakeholders to support regulatory outcomes and enforcement activities. This is a full-time Melbourne-based role with opportunities to contribute to regulatory practice improvements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits, inspections, audits, performance testing, and compliance assessments of plumbing installations across all stages and occupied buildings.
• Prepare inspection reports, regulatory correspondence, Orders and Notices, and maintain accurate case management and records.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, respond to complaints, support legal proceedings, and provide technical advice and knowledge sharing.
• Maintain up-to-date regulatory knowledge and participate in cross-functional inspections and improvement initiatives.

About the Role

The Inspector, Plumbing is responsible for conducting inspections, audits, and investigations to promote compliance with plumbing legislation, building codes, and Australian Standards. The role supports regulatory outcomes through stakeholder engagement, complaint management, compliance monitoring, and the exercise of statutory powers in line with BPC policies and guidelines.

What we are looking for

• Conduct site visits, inspections, audits, performance testing, and compliance assessments of plumbing installations across all construction stages and occupied buildings, gathering evidence and exercising regulatory powers to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, codes, and standards.
• Prepare inspection reports, regulatory correspondence, Orders and Notices, and maintain accurate case management, administrative records, and data to support compliance, investigations, reporting, and enforcement activities.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, respond to complaints and investigations, support legal proceedings where required, and provide technical advice, presentations, and knowledge sharing across industry and regulatory forums.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by maintaining up-to-date technical and legislative knowledge, supporting organisational reforms and projects, participating in cross-functional inspections and emergency response activities, and identifying opportunities to enhance regulatory practices and outcomes.
