Job summary

01 Flinders University is seeking an Information Security Specialist in Bedford Park/Kaurna Country. The role sits in the Information and Digital Services portfolio and reports to the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer.

You will protect critical university information assets and contribute to cyber security capabilities across a large, complex environment. The role offers exposure to security operations, infrastructure security, monitoring, incident response and a range of security

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related discipline.
  • Experience implementing, configuring and supporting cyber security technologies including network security and monitoring.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with risk assessment capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, deploy and maintain security platforms including email security, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and VPNs.
  • Provide technical advice on cyber security initiatives and emerging threats.
  • Enhance proactive security monitoring to identify and mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Support security infrastructure across networks and systems with incident response collaboration.

Position Details Full-Time | Continuing Higher Education Officer Level 7 | $102,589 - $113,561

Location: Bedford Park / Kaurna Country View

About the Role

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Information Security Specialist within our Information and Digital Services Portfolio. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer, you will play a vital role in protecting the University's information assets, systems and infrastructure while contributing to the ongoing development of cyber security capabilities across a large and complex environment. Working as part of a collaborative and highly skilled Information Security team, you will gain broad exposure across cyber security operations, infrastructure security, security monitoring, incident response, emerging cyber security threats and trends, and a diverse range of security projects.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to deepen your technical expertise, expand your cyber security knowledge and contribute to meaningful outcomes in a supportive and flexible university environment, while helping strengthen the security of the University's critical systems and services.

Key responsibilities
  • Configuring, deploying and maintaining security platforms and controls, including advanced email security, firewalls, intrusion prevention and detection systems, endpoint protection and VPN solutions.
  • Providing technical advice on cyber security initiatives, security threats and emerging developments, while contributing to projects and activities that strengthen the University's security posture.
  • Optimising and refining the University's proactive security monitoring capabilities to ensure cyber threats, incidents and vulnerabilities are identified, investigated and mitigated in a timely manner.
  • Supporting and implementing security infrastructure and controls across the University's networks and systems, including incident response activities and collaboration with internal stakeholders to protect critical services and information assets.
  • Promoting information security across the University through stakeholder engagement, guidance, project support and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

You are a cyber security professional with strong technical capability and a genuine passion for information security. You enjoy working in a dynamic environment, solving complex problems and collaborating with others to deliver practical security outcomes. Whether your experience has been gained in higher education or another complex organisation, you are motivated by opportunities to learn, grow and broaden your exposure across multiple areas of cyber security.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, configuring and supporting cyber security technologies, including network security and monitoring solutions.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and deliver practical security outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to explain complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working within a complex IT environment and balancing security requirements with operational and business needs.
