Job summary

WorkCover Queensland is seeking an experienced Information Protection Engineer to own a major Microsoft Purview implementation and drive data security, governance, and compliance across the organisation.

You will lead the rollout of sensitivity labeling, DLP, encryption, records management, and data lifecycle management, partner with stakeholders, and become the SME for information protection in a regulated environment.

The Opportunity

Join WorkCover Queensland at an exciting stage of our information protection journey. We are seeking an experienced Information Protection Engineer to take ownership of a major Microsoft Purview implementation that is already underway and help shape the future of data security, governance, and compliance across the organisation. This role offers the opportunity to lead the rollout of information protection capabilities including sensitivity labelling, data loss prevention (DLP), encryption controls, records management, and data lifecycle management.

Initially, your focus will be on driving the successful implementation and optimisation of Microsoft Purview, validating existing configurations, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure information protection controls are practical, effective, and aligned to business needs. You'll work closely with project teams, security specialists, data governance professionals, and business leaders to translate policy and compliance requirements into meaningful technical outcomes.

Beyond implementation, you will become the organisation's subject matter expert and trusted advisor for information protection. You'll have the opportunity to influence strategy, guide future capability development across Purview, Microsoft Defender, and related technologies, and establish a sustainable, business-as-usual information protection function within a complex and regulated environment.

About You

You are a Microsoft Information Protection specialist who has successfully delivered and owned Microsoft Purview capabilities in a complex environment. Beyond the technical expertise, you're a proactive leader who can engage with stakeholders, understand how the business operates, and provide expert guidance that drives information protection outcomes. You enjoy taking ownership, identifying opportunities for improvement, and translating business requirements into practical, effective security controls.

You will bring:

• Strong hands-on experience implementing and optimising Microsoft Purview, including Information Protection, Sensitivity Labelling and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
• Proven experience leading or owning an information protection capability through implementation and ongoing operational management.
• The ability to analyse reporting and operational insights to recommend policy improvements, classification strategies, and new protection controls.
• Experience engaging with business stakeholders and translating organisational requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Knowledge of the broader Microsoft security ecosystem, including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDCA), and Microsoft Sentinel.
• Experience delivering information protection and DLP controls across Microsoft 365, cloud services, endpoints, and SaaS applications.
• Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the confidence to provide expert advice and guide delivery outcomes.
• Experience working in large, complex, or regulated environments.
• Qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Information Management, Business Management, or a related discipline.
