Job summary

GS on the Gold Coast seeks a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support industrial maintenance, shutdowns and upgrades across mining and heavy industry, focusing on hands-on drafting to field testing for reliability in high-pressure environments.

The successful candidate will hold a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, have 2+ years in a mechanical technician role and strong CAD skills. On-site work with a driver's license is required, with local travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 2 years in a mechanical technician role in industrial maintenance/mining.
• Proficient in reading and preparing mechanical drawings CAD.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Experience in field testing and data analysis.
• Ability to estimate material quantities and costs.
• Knowledge of WHS regulations and compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Effective communication with engineers and site teams.
• Valid driver's license and on-site availability.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings and designs under supervision of engineers.
• Assist in designing mechanical equipment and hydraulic systems for upgrades and shutdowns.
• Assemble, install, and modify mechanical assemblies and hydraulic power systems.
• Perform field and laboratory tests to validate performance.
• Estimate material costs and quantities for maintenance scopes and projects.
• Organise inspection and maintenance schedules to maximise uptime.
• Ensure designs meet specifications, regulations and safety standards.
