Job summary

Macmahon is seeking a Supervisor HSEQ for underground exploration operations in Sydney, NSW. You will own the end-to-end delivery of safety leadership, enforce the SMS, and drive continuous improvement across site safety programs.

Responsibilities include audits, investigations, incident reporting, PPE management, and training delivery. You’ll work with site leaders to ensure regulatory compliance and a strong safety culture on underground projects. Rosters apply: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHSE) or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar safety role, with underground and/or mining operations experience preferred.
• Certifications and training in relevant safety disciplines are highly desirable.
• Basic computer skills and ability to present to groups.

• Monitor housekeeping, hazard controls, PPE, and emergency response; ensure SOP compliance and safety awareness.
• Facilitate incident investigations, analyze root causes, and report findings to management.
• Deliver safety training and site inductions to ensure understanding of requirements and procedures.

About the Role

Own the end-to-end delivery of the Supervisor HSEQ role, collaborating with site leaders and functional teams to ensurethe safety and well-being of all underground personnel. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving the Safety Management System (SMS) for underground exploration operations. This includes enforcing safety standards, monitoring work practices, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with HSEQ and regulatory requirements. The role involves conducting audits and investigations, promoting a strong safety culture, and supporting continuous improvement and safety initiatives across the project.

Responsibilities

Implement andmaintaina comprehensive safety management system, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies

Ensure responsibilities outlined in the Safety Management Plan are understood and adhered to by all personnel

Coordinate and manage the allocation of Safety Officers across underground exploration sites to ensure adequate safety coverage and effective support at all project locations

Monitor work areas to ensure high standards of housekeeping, hazard control, traffic management, lighting, signage, fatigue management, first aid and emergency response, SOP compliance, and overall safety awareness are consistently maintained

Monitor work areas to ensure maintenance activities comply with safety procedures, including isolation/tag-out, working at heights, lifting and rigging, and the safe management of hazardous substances and dangerous goods

Assist and facilitate incident and accident investigations, analyse root causes, and report findings and recommendations to management

Ensure personnel are familiar with emergency procedures and facilities, and actively participate in drills, testing, and training related to emergency response plans

Ensure adequate supply and maintenance of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all personnel

Coordinate and carry out spot checks to ensure compliance with seat belt use, fatigue monitoring systems (e.g. SIMPER), and PPE requirements across site operations

Prepare and deliver safety training sessions and site inductions to ensure personnel understand safety requirements and procedures

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHSE) or a related discipline

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar safety role, with underground and/or mining operations experience preferred

Certifications and training in relevant safety disciplines, such as SMKP Auditor, Ahli K3 Umum, HSE Inspector, Training of Trainer (ToT), Incident Investigation, Pengawas Operasional Pratama (POP), and Senior First Aid, are highly desirable

Basic computer skills, including word processing and data collation

Basic English communication skills, with the ability to present to groups and clearly communicate complex concepts

Valid driver’s licence (SIM A) with the ability to safely operate a 4WD light vehicle (LV 4x4)

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage others

Self-motivated, with a collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within a team environment
