Job summary

Queensland Fire Department in Rockhampton is seeking a permanent full-time Bushfire Mitigation Officer [First Nations] within the Rural Fire Service QLD. You will provide operational and cultural expertise to support mitigation planning and engagement with Traditional Owners and communities.

Reporting to the Executive Manager Bushfire Mitigation, you will lead in partnerships, community education, and development of plans to reduce bushfire risk in districts, ensuring alignment with QFD

Qualifications

• Identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
• Must meet the mandatory requirements and attributes of the RFSQ Rural Officer Two (RFOO2) role.
• Letter of provenance confirming Aboriginality/descendant status required.

Responsibilities

• Utilise Indigenous cultural fire management and/or cultural burning practices to enhance Indigenous governance systems for fire and biodiversity.
• Lead community education in bushfire prevention and preparedness, including collaboration with regions on brigade initiatives and community events.
• Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives and partnerships to support Indigenous communities and groups to develop, enhance, maintain, and apply traditional fire knowledge and practices.
• Support statewide coordination and delivery of bushfire mitigation activities by Traditional Owners, rangers, brigades, and partners.
