Job summary

Tassal Group is seeking a Senior Hatchery Technician - Incubation at Rookwood Hatchery to lead incubation operations, oversee egg incubation and hatching, and guide a small team to produce high-quality fry for our freshwater production program.

The role requires ownership, problem-solving, process improvement and strong leadership in a production environment. Salmonid incubation/RAS knowledge is admired but not essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in aquaculture, hatcheries, agriculture, food production or similar environment.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Good computer and record-keeping skills.
• Focus on safety, biosecurity and animal welfare.
• Current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of incubation systems.
• Coordinate receipt, incubation and hatching of egg batches during the season.
• Monitor water quality, hatch rates, fry quality and system performance.
• Maintain high welfare, biosecurity and housekeeping standards.
• Coach and support a small team to deliver strong production outcomes.
• Troubleshoot equipment with maintenance teams to keep systems running smoothly.
• Collect and report biological and production data.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and performance across the hatchery.
