With a strong focus on service, we pride ourselves on being one of the most efficient and cost-effective utility providers in Australia.

About the Role

Are you an experienced Commercial Lawyer looking for a pivotal in-house role where you can truly make an impact? We're seeking a talented In-House Legal Counsel / Commercial Lawyer to join our Finance team. This is a unique opportunity to provide critical legal and governance support directly to our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and shape the legal landscape of a thriving business.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys overseeing day-to-day legal operations, and providing expert advice across a broad range of commercial matters. If your career has ideally blended private practice and in-house experience, giving you a well-rounded perspective on business legal challenges, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Do:

  • Provide timely and practical legal advice to support strategic business decisions, ensure compliance, and mitigate legal risks.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts (supply, service, distribution, leases, IP, confidentiality).
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to embed legal considerations into business strategy and operations.
  • Conduct legal research and advise on relevant laws (corporate, consumer, privacy).
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisors and oversee litigation matters.
  • Advise on governance frameworks, policies, and support M&A activities.

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of post-admission experience in general commercial law, gained in either private practice or an in-house environment.
  • Sound understanding of corporate, contract, and commercial law, with exposure to property, intellectual property, and/or employment law being highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing compliance and risks within a commercial setting.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels.
  • High attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law and a current Australian practicing certificate are essential.

Why Join Active Utilities?

  • Impactful Role: Directly contribute to the strategic direction and growth of an innovative company.
  • Flexible Work: Enjoy a supportive and flexible work environment (22.8 hours per week).
  • Career Growth: Put your stamp on the future direction of the company and grow your career.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Access to a wellness program, competitive rewards, EV Salary Packaging, discounted home cleaning, and "bring your dog to work days."
  • Supportive Team: Work within a friendly, dedicated team in a convenient location with free parking.
