Job description

Your New Employer

This government department is responsible for delivering some of the State’s most significant public infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on improving essential services across Queensland. Working in close partnership with a range of stakeholders, they are leading a major capital works program that will benefit communities statewide. The legal team plays a key role in guiding these projects from planning through to delivery.

Your New Role

As Principal Lawyer, you’ll be a trusted advisor to the government’s key infrastructure delivery arm—supporting major capital works programs across Queensland’s hospitals. From site acquisition through to engaging consultants and builders, you'll advise on every step of the development lifecycle.

Expect to work on a healthy mix of tender processes, procurement and commercial and construction contracts including:

  • Structuring and procurement (tenders, joint ventures, D&C contracts);
  • Contract negotiation, risk management and live project support; and
  • Supporting infrastructure and property transactions as needed.

This is a hands-on role with variety, responsibility, and the chance to shape how vital services are delivered across the State.

Your New Team

We’ve worked closely with this legal team for many years and can confidently say: the work is excellent, the culture is genuinely collegiate, and the leadership team deeply values their people. You'll work alongside senior lawyers who are collaborative, down-to-earth, and driven by public purpose.

Culture & Benefits

Below are just some of the benefits on offer:

  • A supportive culture where people are valued;
  • Down to earth and friendly team;
  • Professional development encouraged;
  • No billable targets or budgets;
  • Brisbane CBD location with hybrid/flexible working;
  • Salary packaging and additional leave benefits; and
  • Work that aligns with purpose, impact and professional growth.

Your Skills Profile:

This role suits someone with a broad commercial background with exposure to construction and infrastructure matters.

  • 4-8 years post-admission experience, ideally with strong construction focus;
  • Comfortable working across procurement, contracting, risk and disputes;
  • Strong stakeholder and communication skills—across legal, commercial, and technical teams;
  • Experience in a government or policy-driven environment will be highly regarded;
  • Eligible for or already admitted as a solicitor in Queensland.
