Job summary

Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority in Canberra is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to drive strategic policy and departmental liaison for regulatory reform. You will lead complex reform projects, collaborate with industry, government and scientists, and manage senior stakeholders in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary team.

Applicants should have strong regulatory policy experience, exceptional negotiation and communication skills, and relevant law qualifications

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, influence and implement legislative, regulatory, and policy reform projects in a complex and sensitive environment.
• Highly developed management skills, including fostering a positive team culture and supporting the executive leadership group.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment, prioritising workload and competing priorities.
• Excellent people, negotiation and communication skills with stakeholders from industry, government and community.
• Australian Public Service experience (desirable).
• Law qualifications desirable with exposure to legal policy and regulatory reform (desirable).
• Experience with Parliamentary and Cabinet processes and inter-department liaison (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the APVMA's strategic approach to regulatory reform.
• Examine legislation, regulations and policies to ensure efficiency and fitness for purpose.
• Manage ongoing consideration of the Final Report of the Independent Review of the Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Regulatory System.
• Apply regulatory stewardship to support the national agvet regulatory framework.
• Collaborate with stakeholders from industry, government and community.
