Job summary

Blake Oliver Consulting, on behalf of a market-leading insurer in Sydney, seeks a Financial Lines Underwriting Manager to lead the Sydney team and own a core portfolio. You will coach a skilled underwriting group, drive profitability, and strengthen broker relationships while shaping portfolio strategy in a dynamic market.

You will underwrite complex accounts, price and structure terms, and collaborate with actuarial, claims and distribution to support the business plan in a hybrid working model.

Qualifications

• Strong track record in financial lines underwriting, with senior leadership experience.
• Technical depth in D&O and PI and understanding of regulatory context.
• Experience mentoring or leading people.
• Credibility with brokers and sound commercial judgment.
• ANZIIF or CPIU qualifications valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop an underwriter team with standards for technical quality and broker service.
• Own profitability and growth of a defined financial lines portfolio (D&O, PI, etc.).
• Underwrite complex and larger accounts, pricing and negotiating terms.
• Build and maintain senior broker relationships with balance of responsiveness and underwriting discipline.
• Collaborate with actuarial, claims, reinsurance and distribution on portfolio strategy and capacity.
• Contribute to leadership of the commercial team and to regulatory change.
