Job summary

Wabtec is seeking a hands-on HVAC/Refrigeration professional to lead field service and workshop teams in Brisbane. You will promote safety, drive maintenance accuracy, and deliver production plans while mentoring technicians.

The role emphasizes LEAN practices, teamwork, and strong stakeholder engagement to meet customer needs and quality standards. Domestic travel may be required and the company values safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• HVAC and Refrigeration trade qualification.
• Full C class driver's license.
• Formal leadership or management qualification.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• LEAN methodologies applied in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Promote, lead by example and ensure compliance of HSE & Quality practices.
• Ensure HVAC maintenance/repairs align with work instructions and test specs.
• Develop and maintain weekly production plans with the Field Service Team Leader.
• Mentor technicians on technical knowledge and workshop procedures.
• Lead meetings and drive actions/escalations for issues.
• Ensure plant, tooling, and equipment are serviced and calibrated.
• Support continuous improvement with lean and 5S initiatives.
• Travel domestically or internationally as required.

Who will you be working with?

Where is the position located? Eagle Farm, Brisbane

What will your typical day look like?

• Promote, lead by example and ensure compliance of HSE & Quality practices in accordance with company policy and procedures for all field service and workshop staff, contractors and visitors;
• Ensure the execution of HVAC maintenance/repairs is in accordance with relevant work instructions, manuals and test specification;
• Ensure all work documentation packs are completed in full;
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders and customer contacts;
• Key contributor to develop a weekly plan and directly responsible for the delivery of production requirements in conjunction with the Field Service Team Leader and Production Coordinator;
• Mentor and guide technicians with technical knowledge, workshop process and procedures;
• Conduct meetings i.e. visual board, production, toolbox and be responsible for ensuring the action and/or escalation of all matters/issues that arise;
• Ensure all plant, tooling and equipment is serviced, calibrated and good working order in accordance with relevant requirements;
• Promote and lead by example with continuous improvement, lean and 5S initiatives;
• Take ownership of responsibilities and actively contribute towards the achievement of business performance goals, delivery timeframes and customer satisfaction;
• Willing to work outside or beyond normal hours to support business requirements;
• Domestic or International travel may be required;
• Commitment to Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements; and
• Perform other related duties as required to support business requirements.

Qualifications

What do we want to know about you?

• HVAC and Refrigeration trade qualification;
• Full C class driver’s license;
• Work both independently and as part of a team;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; and
• Formal leadership or management qualification;
• An understanding of the rail industry framework & related technical issues that arise;
• Previous experience completing overhaul, repairs and testing of rollingstock HVAC equipment installed on Passenger or Locomotive rollingstock;
• Demonstrable application of LEAN methodologies within a production environment; and
• Currently Hold/Willing to obtain - Forklift, First Aid, Fire Warden, SARC, RIW, Work safely at height.

Additional Information

Successful candidates will be required to complete a Rail CAT3 medical, background and criminal history check.
