Job summary

Ampcontrol's High Voltage Field Service team in Hexham is looking for a High Voltage Testing Officer/Technician to support testing, commissioning and maintenance across mining, utilities and infrastructure sectors. You will work on generation, transmission and substation assets, performing lab and field tests while delivering safe, reliable electrical solutions.

Candidates should hold an Electrical Trade Qualification with HV experience, and have strong diagnostic skills, drawing interpretation

Qualifications

• Electrical trade qualification with HV testing awareness.
• Experience in high voltage testing, commissioning or maintenance.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
• Commitment to safety and high-quality customer service.
• Current Class C Driver Licence and willingness to travel NSW and interstate.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform high voltage testing, commissioning and maintenance in labs and on-site.
• Test generation, transmission and substation equipment.
• Conduct insulation, withstand, diagnostic and condition assessments on HV gear.
• Support commissioning and energisation activities for electrical projects.
• Fault-find, troubleshoot and investigate technical issues.
• Prepare test plans, risk assessments and commissioning reports.
• Ensure compliance with standards and safe work practices.
• Coordinate testing activities with customers and project teams.

Join Ampcontrol's High Voltage Field Service team in Hexham and play a critical role in delivering specialised high voltage testing, commissioning and maintenance services across Australia's mining, utilities, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

Whether you're a trade-qualified High Voltage Testing Technician or an experienced High Voltage Testing Officer with an Advanced Diploma or Engineering qualification, this role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of generation, transmission and substation assets while contributing to complex and high-profile projects across multiple industries.

Working within a highly skilled team, you'll perform laboratory and field-based testing activities, support commissioning programs, undertake fault-finding and diagnostics, and deliver technical solutions that help customers maintain safe, reliable and efficient electrical infrastructure.

What You'll Do

As a High Voltage Testing Officer / Technician, you will be responsible for:

• Performing high voltage testing, commissioning and maintenance activities in laboratory and field environments
• Conducting testing on generation, transmission and substation assets
• Carrying out insulation, withstand, diagnostic and condition assessment testing of HV equipment
• Supporting commissioning and energisation activities for electrical infrastructure projects
• Undertaking fault-finding, troubleshooting and technical investigations
• Preparing test plans, risk assessments, technical reports and commissioning documentation
• Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, procedures and safe work practices
• Liaising with customers, project teams and stakeholders to coordinate testing activities
• Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and the development of testing procedures
• Mentoring and supporting team members while contributing to a collaborative team environment
• Maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer service

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Electrical Trade Qualification (Cert III Electrotechnology - Electrician)
• Experience in high voltage testing, commissioning, maintenance or electrical infrastructure environments
• Strong understanding of high voltage equipment, systems and safe work practices
• Sound troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Current Class C Driver Licence
• Commitment to safety, quality and customer service excellence
• Ability to travel to customer sites across NSW and interstate as required

Additional qualifications that will be highly regarded

• Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Degree
• Experience within electricity generation, transmission or distribution environments
• High voltage commissioning and substation testing experience
• Experience using specialised HV testing and diagnostic equipment
• High Voltage Switching Operations certification
• Current LV Rescue and CPR qualifications
• Experience within mining, utilities, industrial or infrastructure sectors
• Forklift, EWP, Working at Heights and MR Licence qualifications
