Job summary

Megavar, a specialist HV engineering firm, seeks a Substation Testing and Commissioning Engineer to join the Hobart team. The role adapts to experience, from hands-on commissioning to leading major projects, with a focus on site responsibility.

You’ll perform primary/secondary commissioning, testing protection/SCADA, and document test outcomes while collaborating with design teams across Australia. Flexible working arrangements exist with relocation support for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering or related discipline.
• At least 3 years hands-on experience commissioning HV electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of protection and control systems and Australian standards.
• Proficiency with secondary injection test sets; Omicron experience valued.
• Willingness to travel and work on project sites across Australia.
• Ability to maintain test records, documentation and deadlines for client work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Primary and secondary commissioning of substations, BESS and renewables across Australia.
• Test and validate protection, control and SCADA systems to design specs.
• Troubleshoot commissioning issues with design teams and clients.
• Prepare and maintain commissioning docs: test plans, records, ITPs, reports.
• Collaborate with design, protection and SCADA teams on HV projects.
• Interface with clients, contractors and grid operators on technical issues.
• For senior candidates: lead test teams and mentor engineers.
