Job summary

Coronado Global Resources is seeking an HST Officer to join the Health, Safety & Training team at the Curragh North Open Cut Mine in Blackwater. This role is a fixed-term contract until August 2027, reporting to the HST Superintendent.

It involves field safety support, data management and training, along with compliance checks and incident support. You will engage with frontline leaders, coordinate inductions, and maintain safety records across multiple systems.

Qualifications

• Experience in mining or heavy industry is desirable for developing your HST career.
• Experience in training systems and safety programs is advantageous.
• Basic understanding of safety systems, processes and procedures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience with safety systems such as First Priority, Mine Record, Damstra and ChemAlert is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-the-ground support for safety initiatives and campaigns.
• Participate in field leadership interactions and reinforce safe behaviours.
• Support SHMS implementation and compliance checks.
• Conduct workplace inspections and hazard observations.
• Assist with data collection for safety, health and hygiene monitoring programs.
• Record findings and track corrective actions.
• Support incident reporting and initial evidence collection.

• Maintain safety records across Damstra, First Priority and other systems.
• Update safety metrics and dashboards and assist with reporting.
• Identify opportunities for improvement through engagement with the workforce.

We are seeking an HST Officer to join our Health, Safety & Training team at the Curragh North Open Cut Mine in Blackwater on a Fixed Term Contract until August 2027.

Reporting to the HST Superintendent, this is a hands-on role supporting the implementation of our Safety and Health Management System through the provision of administrative support in daily monitoring, data management and training. You’ll work closely with frontline leaders and the broader HST team to help maintain compliance and support a strong safety culture across the operation.

What You’ll Do

Your role will be interesting and varied and will include:

• Provide on-the-ground support for safety initiatives and campaigns.
• Participate in field leadership interactions and help reinforce safe behaviours.
• Support supervisors with SHMS implementation and compliance checks.
• Conduct workplace inspections and hazard observations.
• Assist with data collection for safety, health and hygiene monitoring programs.
• Record findings and assist with tracking corrective actions.
• Support incident reporting and initial evidence collection.
• Assist HST Advisors and operational leaders with the implementation of corrective actions.
• Coordinate safety training and inductions.
• Maintain accurate safety records across Damstra, First Priority and other systems.
• Update safety metrics and dashboards and assist with internal and regulatory reporting.
• Identify opportunities for improvement through regular engagement with our workforce.

What You’ll Bring

This role would suit someone looking to continue building their career in health and safety within a mining environment. You’ll be comfortable spending time in the field, engaging with people at all levels and balancing practical safety support with reporting and administration.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Experience within mining or heavy industry is desirable, however not essential for someone developing their career in HST.
• Experience in training systems.
• A basic understanding of safety systems, processes and procedures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience with systems such as First Priority, Mine Record, Damstra and ChemAlert would be advantageous.
• Experience in SAP would also be beneficial.
