Job summary

UGL Limited is seeking an experienced HSSEQ Manager to provide leadership and guidance across health, safety, environment and quality for our Victoria-based infrastructure program. You will champion incident investigations, KPI tracking and continuous improvement, coaching project teams and maintaining compliance with regulatory and client requirements.

UGL's Transmission and Utilities business undertakes essential design & construction services for critical infrastructure in the power and water sectors. Our end-to-end delivery ranges from transmission lines, switchyards, substations, electrical distribution through to water and wastewater treatment plants and water pipelines.

Our expertise includes the design, construct, commission, operate and maintain where our Utilities Team safely leads and delivers design & construct projects across Australia. Our project delivery extends to include short and long-term contracts either through self-performance works, working with Sub-contractors or through Joint Ventures. Our work spans from engineering design through to structural, civil, electrical installation works and commissioning.

The Opportunity

The HSSEQ Manager is responsible for providing advice, assistance, guidance, training, leadership and support to all levels of operations on health, safety, security, environment and quality issues across the program or works.

The position also provides advice to support and maintain a safe and healthy workplace and for adherence to company policies and other applicable laws, regulations and standards for the workplace. If adequate laws or policies don’t exist, ensuring practices adopted reflect assurance to the highest standard in the WH&S and environment.

What will a day in this role look like:
  • Implement UGL’s HSEQ Management System, through coaching and completion of assurance activities (aligned to UGL’s Assurance Plan).
  • Build HSEQ capability in Site/Project Teams, using the OneHSE Culture Program as platform to build from.
  • Actively engage Project teams to identify how health and safety, environment, and quality outcomes are being achieved on site, and assist with addressing gaps where identified.
  • Take part in/facilitate Project Risk Workshops, building capability and sharing lessons from other projects.
  • Lead incident investigations for Severity 1, Severity 2 and PC1 events
  • Monitor and report on achievement of Project HSEQ KPI’s, working with the leadership team to address any identified deficiencies.
  • Monitor alignment with legal and client obligations, providing advice to Project Managers and projects/sites on changes or emerging trends that could impact the successful delivery of work.

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:
  • Excellent knowledge of the relevant HSEQ legislations.
  • Demonstrated capability in implementing HSEQ improvement programs/strategies.
  • Experience in leading incident investigations for significant events.
  • Developed Strong business Acumen and understanding of different contract strategies.
  • Experience working in the capacity of a Principal Contractor on large infrastructure projects (any water infrastructure experience desirable).
  • Experience managing teams across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Root Cause Investigation Qualification (ICAM or Taproot) (Minimum).
