Job summary

The HSE Advisor will report to the functional Head of Safety and support projects across the Central Coast and Hunter regions. You will ensure Health and Safety standards are met while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Responsibilities include managing client and regulatory relationships, leading site inspections and audits, investigating incidents, and developing corrective actions to drive WHS performance across major commercial projects in NSW.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry.
  • Experience delivering commercial projects over $50M is highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
  • Deep knowledge of WHSE legislation, risk management processes, and auditing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Investigate safety incidents and near misses; develop corrective actions.
  • Identify/report risks and hazards; ensure timely investigation and controls.
  • Support WHS management systems implementation and monitoring.
  • Identify HSE training needs; develop project-based training; maintain training register.
  • Capture, analyse, and report incident trends, audits, and WHS performance data.

Job description

Well established across Sydney and regional NSW, this commercial builder has been delivering major projects in the commercial, residential, and health sectors for over half a century . With divisions spanning new build and fitout & refurbishment, their quality of work is demonstrated through multiple industry awards and long-standing client partnerships spanning decades.

The Opportunity

The HSE Advisor will report to the functional Head of Safety and support projects across the Central Coast and Hunter regions. Working closely with project leadership, you will ensure Health and Safety standards are met while fostering a proactive safety culture.

  • Managing client and key regulatory stakeholder relationships.
  • Leading site inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Investigating safety incidents and near misses, and developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Identifying and reporting risks and hazards, ensuring timely investigation and implementation of appropriate control measures.
  • Supporting the implementation and monitoring of WHS management systems.
  • Identifying HSE training needs, and developing and facilitating project-based training programs, while maintaining the training register.
  • Capturing, analysing, and reporting on incident trends, audit outcomes, and WHS performance data to support continuous improvement.
Your Skills & Experience

Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry is required, with a track record of delivering commercial projects over $50M being highly regarded. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, with the ability to advise and influence project leadership, subcontractors, and client representatives. Deep knowledge of WHSE legislation, risk management processes, and auditing practices will be relied upon. A minimum Certificate IV in WHS is required, with a Diploma or higher qualification highly regarded. An ICAM certification would also be advantageous.
