Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Transmission and Substation team. This field-based role supports safe delivery of major power infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand, reporting to the HSE Manager.

You will verify safety, manage risks, support incidents and ensure controls are in place on site. You will work with project teams, subcontractors and clients to uphold compliance, audit readiness and continuous improvement, stopping work

Qualifications

• Strong field experience in construction/utilities infrastructure
• Solid knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and high risk work
• Experience supporting permit to work systems and risk management
• Proven ability to conduct inspections, observations and assurance activities

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Transmission and Substation team.

The Opportunity

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Transmission and Substation team. This field based role plays a critical part in supporting the safe delivery of major power infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will provide frontline health, safety and environmental assurance through site verification activities, risk management, incident support, compliance monitoring and workforce engagement. You will work closely with project teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure critical controls are implemented effectively, risks are managed and compliance obligations are met across all stages of project delivery. This role has the authority to stop work where critical risk controls are absent or ineffective and provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of complex transmission and substation projects.

What We're Looking For

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or higher
• Current Construction Industry White Card
• Demonstrated experience within construction, utilities, power, infrastructure or major project environments
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and high risk work activities
• Experience supporting permit to work systems, risk management processes and critical control verification
• Proven capability conducting field inspections, workplace observations and assurance activities
• Experience investigating incidents and supporting corrective action management
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to positively influence operational teams and subcontractors
• High attention to detail and a focus on compliance, audit readiness and documentation
• Experience using HSE management systems and training platforms
• The confidence to intervene, challenge unsafe practices and elevate critical risks when required.
