Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a Hospital Assistant at Blayney Health Service to support an efficient catering and cleaning service for patients and facilities. The role includes permanent and casual opportunities with shifts from 06:30 to 15:00, 10:30 to 19:00, and 09:00 to 17:30, along with mandatory training and supervision.

You will assist with meal preparation, delivery, tray collection, and cleaning, and must hold a NSW driver’s licence to support work duties across the site.

Qualifications

• Experience in cleaning and catering support within health services.
• Current NSW driving licence with ability to drive for work purposes.
• Ability to perform high-level cleaning and assist with meal preparation.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays.
• Mandatory online and face-to-face training is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning duties including high- and outside cleaning.
• Assist the cook with meal preparation and menu planning for patients.
• Deliver meals to patients and residents; collect trays after meals.
• Load/unload dishwasher and prepare meal trays.
• Launder residents' washing and maintain food safety/hygiene knowledge.
• Work on rotating roster shifts, including weekends/public holidays.

About the role

The Hospital Assistant supports the delivery of an efficient and effective catering and cleaning service to the patients and facilities within the Health Service.We are seeking suitably experienced applicants to join our Support Services team at Blayney MPS, with both permanent & casual opportunities available.

You will have the ability to undertake a range of Cleaning duties, including high cleaning and outside cleaning. Ability to provide assistance to the cook in preparation of food/ menus for patients and residents. Delivering meals to patients and residents and collection of trays after meals have been eating. You will also hold a current licence to drive in NSW with the ability to drive for work purposes as required.

This role also includes loading and unloading the dishwasher and preparation of trays for each meal, Laundering of residents washing and being able to maintain knowledge of food safety and hygiene.

Blayney has 3 shifts, staff are rostered to undertake- 0630-3pm, 1030-7pm and 0900-530pm. You will have the ability and willingness to work shifts, on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Blayney has a small team of 9 staff including hospital assistants and a cook on each shift.

A typical workday would depend on what area you are working in, we have kitchen and cleaning shifts as well as cook shifts. Roles and responsibilities include cleaning and assisting the cook while taking directions from management and senior staff.

Providing excellent resident and patient care is always very rewarding for staff. Residents value staff spending time with them and talking to them whilst cleaning duties are undertaken.

The successful applicants will work closely with all departments in the hospital. Nurses, HSM, Admin, dieticians and other Hospital Assistants.

All staff are required to undertake Mandatory training through online training and face to face training. The Support Services manager is available to support staff. Blayney has an extensive orientation program for staff to complete and staff are set up with a buddy to support them as well.
