Job summary

Woollahra Council seeks a motivated and physically fit Horticulturist to join our Paddington depot on a permanent full-time basis. You will carry out scheduled horticultural maintenance in high-profile parks and gardens, including weeding and mowing, with attention to safety and customer service.

The role requires a Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent, experience with small plant equipment, a valid Class C driver’s licence, and a commitment to WHS.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Horticulture, or completion towards or equivalent.
• Experience in the use and maintenance of small plant equipment.
• Demonstrated practical experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated commitment to Work Health and Safety in the workplace and the practical application of safe working procedures.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Weeding and mowing in high-profile parks and gardens.
• Conduct playground inspections and whipper work.
• Litter pick-up and general improvement works in parks, gardens, sports fields and streetscapes.
• Forward planning for yearly maintenance tasks and ordering of plants.
• Identify and report hazards and follow up on customer requests.

Base salary $77,396 - $85,544 + additional allowance of $1,055.08 p.a. plus super

7am to 4pm Monday to Friday with a fortnightly rostered day off

Working out of Quarry Street, Paddington and our Trumper Park Depot, Paddington

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and physically fit Horticulturist to join Woollahra Council on a permanent full-time basis. Working out of our Paddington depot, you will carry out scheduled works for Horticultural maintenance in high profile parks and gardens.

Your main duties will include weeding and mowing as well as to conduct playground inspections, whipper work and cleaning (Litter Pick Up), and general improvement works in parks, gardens, sports fields and streetscapes. You will also be responsible for forward planning for yearly maintenance tasks, ordering of plants, identifying and reporting hazards and following up and actioning customer requests.

About you

We are looking for a qualified Horticulturist with a great work ethic, a positive can-do attitude and a passion for working outdoors. Your exceptional customer service skills and your eagerness to work collaboratively in a small team will ensure your success in this role.

Essential Criteria

• Certificate III in Horticulture, or completion towards or equivalent.

• Demonstrated practical experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated commitment to Work Health and Safety in the workplace and the practical application of safe working procedures.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.

• Traffic Control Qualifications – Blue and Yellow Card
• Demonstrated ability to develop maintenance and improvement programs
• Construction Induction Card
• Chemical Application (Level 3) qualifications
