Job summary

Life Without Barriers in Cairns is seeking a Home & Community Assistant to support Queensland Community Support Scheme clients at home. You will help people with a disability, illness or mental health to stay independent and connected in their community.

This permanent part-time role runs 7am–6pm, Monday to Friday, with travel to multiple clients daily in Cairns and surrounding areas. You will be reimbursed for kilometres, and a starting hourly rate of $36.22 plus super applies.

Qualifications

• Australian driver's licence and a reliable vehicle with third-party insurance.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
• Good organisation, hygiene practices and problem-solving abilities.
• Current First Aid and CPR certificate (must be obtained prior to employment).

Responsibilities

• Provide domestic assistance such as light cleaning and meal prep.
• Deliver personal care including showering and daily health monitoring.
• Support skill development and social engagement for clients.
• Facilitate community access to appointments, events and shopping.
• Promote independence according to individual goals and needs.
• Establish rapport and collaborate with clients and families.

About the Role

You will provide personalised support to our QCSS (Queensland Community Support Scheme) clients within their homes in Cairns. You will provide supports to people with a disability, illness or mental health condition to maintain their independence and achieve their goals.

This is a Permanent Part Time opportunity with working hours available between 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, no evening or sleepover shifts. You will be required to travel to support multiple clients each day within Cairns and surrounding local areas, so a willingness to travel is essential to this role (you will be reimbursed $1.01 cents per kilometre travelled while you work).

Skills & Experience

• An Australian Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle with minimum third-party insurance
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships
• Excellent organisational skills, hygiene practices and problem-solving abilities
• A current First Aid and CPR Certificate (must be obtained prior to employment)

Successful candidates will be required to undertake relevant pre-employment checks to ensure the safety of our clients. This includes a National Criminal History Record Check, QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and an Aged Care Statutory Declaration.
