Job summary

Ampcontrol in Hexham, NSW, is seeking an experienced High Voltage Technician to join our Field Service team. This hands-on role supports mining, utilities and infrastructure sectors by delivering maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and fault-finding on critical electrical assets at various sites.

You will work on HV/LV equipment, protection systems, transformers and switchgear, with a strong safety focus and a commitment to quality.

Qualifications

• Essential electrical licence valid in NSW.
• Certificate III in Electrotechnology completed.
• Current driver’s licence and HV switching qualification.
• Height safety and LVR/CPR certification.
• Experience with HV protection, transformers and earthing.
• Demonstrated HV maintenance and testing experience.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and troubleshooting of HV equipment.
• Test and maintain protection systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing.
• Inspect HV/LV metering devices in switchyards/substations and report findings.
• Prepare detailed testing and service reports.
• Advise customers on product and service requirements.
• Support continuous improvement and process development.
• Maintain testing equipment and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Work across sites including surface and underground mining operations.

Ampcontrol is seeking an experienced High Voltage Technician to join our Hexham Field Service team.

In this hands-on field-based role, you'll support customers across the mining, utilities, and infrastructure sectors by delivering high-quality maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and fault-finding services on critical electrical assets.

You'll work across a broad range of projects including new equipment installations, asset replacements, upgrades and ongoing maintenance programs.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and troubleshooting of high voltage electrical equipment
• Test and maintain protection systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing systems
• Conduct inspections and monitoring of HV/LV metering and electrical safety equipment within switchyards and substations
• Prepare detailed testing, commissioning and service reports
• Identify customer requirements and provide technical advice on products and services
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support business process development
• Maintain testing equipment and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
• Work at a variety of customer sites, including surface and occasional underground hard rock mining operations

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Electrical Licence valid in the state of employment
• Certificate III in Electrotechnology
• Current Driver's Licence
• High Voltage Switching Operations qualification
• Work Safely at Heights certification
• Current LVR/CPR certification
• Demonstrated experience in HV maintenance and testing environments
• Experience working with protection systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing systems
• Strong commitment to safety and quality outcomes.

Highly Regarded

• Experience delivering electrical infrastructure projects within mining, manufacturing, utilities, oil and gas or heavy industrial environments
• Experience undertaking transformer oil sampling and interpreting results
• Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities
• Strong reporting and Microsoft Office skills.
• Secondary injection testing of protection relays
• Diploma or Advanced Engineering degree
