Job summary

Austral Resources is seeking a skilled High Voltage Electrician to join our team in Northwest Queensland. The role focuses on maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and fault-finding across HV systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing networks.

You will work within the Site Services Maintenance team, delivering high-quality services on critical electrical assets and supporting project-based upgrades while maintaining a strong safety culture and compliance with mining standards.

Qualifications

• Electrical licence valid in Queensland or state of employment.
• Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent electrical trade qualification.
• Current Driver's Licence.
• High Voltage Switching Operations qualification.
• Current LVR/CPR certification.
• Demonstrated HV maintenance, testing, commissioning or field service experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and troubleshooting of high voltage equipment.
• Test and maintain protection systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing systems.
• Carry out transformer oil sampling and condition monitoring support.
• Inspect HV/LV metering and electrical safety equipment in switchyards and substations.
• Conduct routine maintenance on electrical systems and motors.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults as they arise.
• Assist with new installations, asset replacements and upgrades.
• Maintain detailed testing and maintenance records.
• Provide technical advice to the maintenance team.

About the Role

Our operations include Lady Annie Operations, located approximately 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa; Lady Loretta Operations, located approximately 140km north-northwest of Mount Isa; and Rocklands, located approximately 17km west of Cloncurry. We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused High Voltage Electrician to join our team and contribute to the ongoing success of our site operations.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the relevant site PCEW and working within the Site Services Maintenance team, you will support site operations by delivering high-quality maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and fault-finding services on critical electrical assets. This hands-on role will involve work across high voltage systems, protection systems, transformers, switchgear, earthing systems, motors and associated electrical infrastructure, supporting day-to-day maintenance and project-based works including new installations, asset replacements and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, testing, commissioning, installation and troubleshooting of high voltage electrical equipment
• Test and maintain protection systems, transformers, switchgear and earthing systems
• Carry out transformer oil sampling and support condition monitoring activities in line with site requirements
• Conduct inspections and monitoring of HV/LV metering and electrical safety equipment within switchyards, substations and site electrical areas
• Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on electrical systems, motors and site equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults as they arise
• Assist with installation of new electrical infrastructure, asset replacements and upgrades
• Prepare and maintain detailed testing, commissioning, service, maintenance and repair records
• Identify operational requirements and provide technical advice and support to the wider maintenance team
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support business process development
• Maintain testing equipment and ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, electrical and mining standards
• Work at a variety of site areas.

Key Requirements

• Electrical Licence valid in Queensland or the state of employment
• Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent electrical trade qualification
• Current Driver's Licence
• High Voltage Switching Operations qualification
• Current LVR/CPR certification
• Demonstrated experience in HV maintenance, testing, commissioning or field service environments
• Experience working with protection systems, transformers, switchgear, earthing systems, motors and associated electrical assets
• Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a wider maintenance team
• Strong commitment to safety, quality outcomes and compliance with relevant standards and regulations
