Job summary

The City of Adelaide is seeking a Heritage Advisor to help protect and celebrate the city's built heritage within the Park Lands, Policy & Sustainability Program. You will provide expert heritage advice, support the Heritage Incentives Scheme, and contribute to conservation projects aligned with Burra Charter.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of traditional buildings and their cultural significance.
• Understanding of the historical forces that moulded the City and their impact on the physical character.
• Adelaide's construction vernaculars and the associated conservation techniques.
• An understanding of the tenets of conservation of the built environment.
• Knowledge of the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter.
• Knowledge of cultural landscape.
• An understanding of the legislative provisions which provide the basis of heritage management.
• An understanding of traditional building construction.
• An understanding of the role and application of Conservation Management Plans to the management of a heritage place.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert heritage advice to protect and celebrate the City’s built heritage.
• Support Heritage Incentives Scheme and conservation projects.
• Assess funding applications and heritage-related development proposals.
• Inspect conservation works and ensure alignment with Burra Charter.
• Collaborate with property owners and internal teams to support thoughtful conservation outcomes.
