Job summary

Brisbane City Council is offering a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice program across multiple Brisbane locations. You will gain a nationally recognised trade qualification while working with experienced tradespeople, developing skills in servicing, maintenance and repair of the city’s bus fleet.

No prior industry experience is required; the program emphasises on-the-job training, mentoring and progression opportunities within the Council after completion.

Qualifications

• Interest in vehicles and mechanics
• Hands-on, practical work
• Curious, motivated and eager to learn
• Problem solving and attention to detail
• Follow safe work practices and instructions
• Good communication and teamwork
• Reliable and motivated to complete apprenticeship
• Hold a current driver's licence and can obtain Heavy Rigid (HR) licence

Responsibilities

• Inspect buses and perform servicing operations.
• Diagnose faults and resolve issues identified by bus operators.
• Overhaul mechanical components, including engines, transmissions and suspension systems.
• Assist with repairs and maintenance to keep vehicles safe and reliable.
• Diagnose electrical faults, fuel systems, braking and wheel alignment.
• Learn safe workshop practices and maintenance procedures.
