Ballina Shire Council is seeking a skilled heavy vehicle mechanic to join our workshop team. You’ll service and repair heavy vehicles, plant and machinery, helping to keep our fleet running smoothly and safely.

In this hands-on role you may mentor apprentices and support the Supervisor. A trade qualification, experience in hydraulics, pumps, welding, and a clean driving record are essential.

Qualifications

• Trade certificate relevant to the position.
• Experience working in a mechanical workshop.
• Experience with hydraulics, pumps, welding and heavy plant repairs.
• Class C driver licence with manual transmission.
• White Card (Work Safe Construction Induction).
• Immunisation against Hepatitis A and B or willingness to participate.

Responsabilités

• Service and repair heavy vehicles, plant and machinery to keep fleet ready and safe.
• Assist in maintaining a broad range of fleet systems and equipment.
• Mentor and develop apprentices; support the Supervisor in workshop leadership.
• Promote safety and adherence to WHS policies in daily tasks.

About the Role

Position

In this hands-on role, you’ll be a key part of keeping Council’s broad range of fleet running smoothly. From servicing and repairs to maintaining heavy vehicles, plant, and machinery, your work will make a real impact on the community. You’ll also have the chance to support the Supervisor in mentoring and developing apprentices.

To be successful you will bring

• Trade certificate relevant to the position.
• Demonstrated experience working in a mechanical workshop.
• Proven experience with hydraulics, pumps, welding and heavy plant repairs.
• Proven knowledge of plant operation capabilities and associated maintenance and repair requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in the direction and supervision of apprentices and contractors, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Proven good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Class C driver licence with the ability to operate manual transmission and a good and safe driving record.
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).
• Current immunisation against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B viruses or willingness to participate in an immunisation program.
• Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of equal employment opportunity, work health and safety, environmental management and risk management and an ability to apply them to the work practices.

• A salary range of $68,400 to $78,600 per annum (plus 12% superannuation, a weekly tool allowance of $39.40 and a weekly industry allowance of $19.49).
