Job summary

CHWM Contractors in Queensland is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Fleet Manager / Leading Hand Mechanic to oversee day-to-day maintenance, reliability and compliance of our heavy vehicle fleet. This is a hands-on role combining mechanical repair work with fleet management duties.

You will lead the workshop team, plan servicing, diagnose faults, and drive improvements to keep prime movers, trailers and equipment safe and available on the road.

Qualifications

• A recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade Qualification.
• Significant experience working on heavy vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Experience on prime movers and heavy vehicle combinations.
• Experience carrying out servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
• Ability to work independently and make sound mechanical decisions.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Good leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out hands-on mechanical servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and braking systems.
• Managing the day-to-day maintenance requirements of prime movers, trailers and other heavy equipment.
• Planning and coordinating scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Prioritising breakdowns and urgent repairs to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Leading and working alongside workshop personnel.
• Allocating jobs and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Heavy Vehicle Fleet Manager / Leading Hand Mechanic

We are looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Fleet Manager / Leading Hand Mechanic to take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance, reliability, compliance and performance of our heavy vehicle fleet. This is a genuinely hands-on role. You will be responsible for managing the fleet while also working alongside the workshop team, carrying out mechanical repairs, servicing, fault finding and preventative maintenance. The successful applicant will be someone who is equally comfortable turning a spanner as they are managing a maintenance schedule, organising repairs, leading a team and keeping the fleet compliant and on the road. This is a key position within the business, with responsibility for ensuring our prime movers, trailers and associated equipment are safe, reliable and available when required.

Key responsibilities

Carrying out hands-on mechanical servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance

About you
