Job summary

WesTrac in Welshpool, WA is seeking a Plant Mechanic for Mining Components to overhaul Caterpillar engines, transmissions, differentials and final drives. You will report to the Workshop Supervisor and contribute to a high‑standard repair process.

You will inspect parts, measure against reusability guidelines and complete quality documentation, while maintaining a safe, efficient workshop and rostered 5 days on, 2 days off. This position requires teamwork and independent work when needed.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle or Plant Mechanic.
• Experience on mobile plant and components.
• Desirable experience with Caterpillar ET, SIS, VIMS.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul Caterpillar components (engines, transmissions, differentials, final drives).
• Inspect and measure internal parts against reusability guidelines.
• Complete component overhauls per Caterpillar specs and procedures.
• Accurately complete inspection and quality control documentation.
• Maintain a safe and innovative workplace.

Your new role as the Plant Mechanic for Mining Components will be reporting to the Workshop Supervisor.

About Welshpool

The Mining Components workshop at Welshpool, WA, offers cost-effective repairs for Caterpillar equipment. We specialise in certified powertrain components, and custom solutions, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.

Location : Welshpool

Roster - 5Days On, 2Days Off - DAYS ONLY

What you'll do:

• Overhaul various Caterpillar components including engines, transmissions, differentials and final drives.
• Inspect and measure internal parts against reusability guidelines.
• Complete component overhauls in accordance with Caterpillar specifications and company procedures.
• Accurately complete inspection and quality control documentation.
• Actively participate in maintaining a safe and innovative workplace.

Skills & Experience:

• Heavy Vehicle or Plant Mechanic Trade Qualification
• Experience working on mobile plant and components
• Experience with Caterpillar Systems (ET, SIS, VIMS) - desirable
• Dedication to a safe working environment and quality work for our customers
