BUMA Australia is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitter to join our maintenance team at Goonyella. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will perform repairs and proactive maintenance on a fleet including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr and Hitachi mining equipment.

You will support shutdowns, routine servicing and breakdowns, with a focus on safety and high-quality repairs in both workshop and field settings.

Formación

• Recognised trade qualifications as a Diesel Fitter or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
• Extensive experience in a similar role within the mining or heavy industry sector.

Responsabilidades

• Performing critical repairs and proactive maintenance on BUMA’s mobile fleet at Goonyella, featuring Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr and Hitachi mining equipment.
• Supporting planned shutdowns, routine servicing, emergency breakdowns and in-depth diagnostic work to maintain site productivity.
• Troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues across engines, transmissions, hydraulics and other key systems on heavy vehicles and plant equipment.
• Implementing preventative maintenance to maximise machinery performance, reliability and uptime.
• Delivering high-quality repairs in the field and workshop to minimise downtime and keep equipment operational.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitter to join our dynamic maintenance team at Goonyella. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, your duties will include:

Key Responsibilities:

Performing critical repairs and proactive maintenance on BUMA’s mobile fleet at Goonyella, featuring industry-leading Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr and Hitachi mining equipment.

Playing a key role in maintaining site productivity by supporting planned shutdowns, routine servicing, emergency breakdowns, and in-depth diagnostic work.

Troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues across engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other essential systems on heavy vehicles and plant equipment.

Implementing strategic preventative maintenance to maximize machinery performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Delivering high-quality repairs both in the field and within the workshop, ensuring minimal downtime and keeping equipment operational.

About You

Recognised trade qualifications as a Diesel Fitter or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

Extensive experience in a similar role within the mining or heavy industry sector.

Proven experience working on Caterpillar, Hitachi, Liebherr and Komatsu mining equipment.

Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.

A proactive approach to safety, with a proven track record of adhering to and promoting workplace safety standards.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Located in the Bowen Basin of Central Queensland, BMA’s Goonyella Mine is one of Queensland’s largest coal mines. It is situated approximately 30 kilometres from the town of Moranbah.

BUMA Australia provide labour, supervision, technical support and mobile plant to perform truck and excavator pre-strip operations.
