Job description

Details: The Canberra Theatre Centre (CTC) is seeking an experienced technical theatre leader with strong people management skills, sound operational judgement, and a commitment to technical excellence and safety to lead its Sound and Audio Video (AV) Department during one of the most exciting periods in the organisation's history.

As Australia's first multi-venue performing arts centre the CTC is the cultural heart of Canberra and the surrounding region, presenting a diverse program of world-class performing arts and entertainment. With a new 2,000-seat lyric theatre currently under construction, the CTC is entering a transformative new chapter that will cement its position as a performing arts centre of national significance.

As Head of Sound and AV, you will provide strategic and operational leadership of the Sound and AV Department, leading and developing a skilled team responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional delivery of sound reinforcement, audio systems, communications, video, and audiovisual services across the CTC's venues. Working closely with producers, production managers, and fellow technical department heads, you will provide expert advice on sound and audiovisual operations, production planning, system capability, and technical delivery.

You will oversee the management, maintenance, and long-term development of the CTC’s sound and audiovisual infrastructure, ensuring equipment, technology, and technical systems remain contemporary, reliable, and capable of supporting a broad range of productions and events. You will drive best-practice workplace health and safety outcomes, champion technical innovation, and contribute to the CTC’s continued evolution as it prepares for a new era of performance and audience experiences.

Leading a team of permanent and casual technical staff, you will mentor and develop sound and AV professionals while building organisational capability to support the CTC’s expansion and future operational needs. As a member of the Technical Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping technical operations and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced sound and audiovisual professional to make a lasting contribution to one of Australia's premier performing arts organisations at a transformational moment in its development.
