Position Details

HEAD OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Status: Full-time – 12- month contract

Commencing: January 2027

The Head of Religious Education (RE) is responsible to the Principal for the Religious Education Learning Area. The main responsibility of the Head of RE is the development of the Religious Education curriculum, teaching practices and student learning. They will be required to be an experienced teacher and demonstrate the ability to inspire teachers and students within the Learning Area. Embracing contemporary pedagogies, they will be innovative in their approach and further enhance the College’s dynamic and authentic learning environment.

As the Head of RE, the successful applicant will have an awareness of the importance of this Learning Area in a Catholic school. The Head of RE has a shared responsibility with the Principal for the implementation of the RE Program mandated by the Archbishop of Perth. Religious Education is the learning area which focuses on the knowledge and understanding of the Gospel as it is handed on by the Catholic Church to those who follow Christ in today’s world, and thereby has an evangelising role. The Head of RE should be an active member of the Catholic Church, and be free from any impediment to full acceptance by the Church. It is essential that the Head of RE maintains open and constant communication with the Principal and Director - Campus Ministry, actively and positively supporting them in their roles. The Head of RE will also extend active and positive support to the House Coordinators and Heads of Year in their responsibilities for the Pastoral Care in the College.

The Head of RE, although accountable to the Principal for the professional development and the coordination of curriculum within the RE Learning Area, will work in close collaboration with the Deputy Principals who have responsibility for the total overview of curriculum coordination within the College.

As with all staff, and particularly those in leadership positions, it is essential that the Head of RE strives to witness Gospel values to the whole school community. It is important that the Head of RE, as in all leadership positions in Catholic schools, continues to develop both spiritually and professionally.
