Job summary

Our client, a Brisbane‑headquartered ASX‑listed mining and natural resources company, seeks a Head of Procurement to lead end‑to‑end procurement for Australia and Papua New Guinea. The role involves frequent travel to PNG, establishing governance, and building a high‑performing procurement team.

You will drive supplier negotiations, framework development, and cross‑border procurement while ensuring compliance with ethical and anti‑bribery standards. English fluency is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in Procurement/Supply Chain/Strategic Sourcing roles.
• 3–5 years of senior procurement leadership in mining, minerals, heavy resources, engineering, energy or heavy construction.
• Proven experience building procurement orgs, governance frameworks, SOPs, and procurement transformation.
• Experience across international and multi‑currency environments (AUD, PGK, USD).
• Strong understanding of end‑to‑end procurement, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and purchasing governance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the end‑to‑end procurement strategy aligned with priorities, project schedules, and financial goals.
• Negotiate and manage strategic relationships with suppliers, contractors, freight forwarders, customs, and service providers across Australia and PNG.
• Establish supplier agreements, frameworks, and sourcing initiatives to improve supply continuity and commercial outcomes.
• Design, recruit, mentor, and develop the procurement organization for corporate and site operations.
• Develop SOPs, delegated authority, and governance processes to support audit readiness and compliance.
• Lead hands‑on resolution of complex procurement issues including customs delays, logistics bottlenecks, and cross‑border purchasing.
• Partner with Finance, Project Managers, and Site Leadership to align procurement with timelines, production needs, and budgets.
• Drive cost optimization through strategic sourcing, supplier performance, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure procurement activities comply with governance, ethical sourcing, anti‑bribery, and modern slavery requirements while managing supplier risk.
